Clinton and Emma were listed in a 1932-33 U.S. City Directory, and he was working as a salesman for Idaho Falls Electric Company. They were living at 167 Whittier Street in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

In the 1940 U.S. Federal Census dated April 26th, for Twin Falls, Idaho, they were listed as follows: Clinton, 45, Emma, 43, Maurine, 21, William, 19, Betty Ruth, 17, Clinton, Jr., 15, J. Preston, 12, Emma Lou, 10, and Norman Eugene Luke, 1 month old. Clinton Sr. was working has a high school teacher. He had 5 years of college education, Emma had 2 years, Maurine had 1 year and William and 4 years of high school. Betty was in her second year of high school, Clinton was in the 8th grade, J., Preston, the 6th, and Emma, the 4th grade. Maurine was working as a secretary and William as an assistant bookkeeper in a hardware store. Clinton did not disclose his income for the year 1939, but Maurine earned $900 and William earned $90 for the 8 weeks he worked that year. They were living at 856 Blue Lake Street, a home they were renting for $30 per month.

Strangely, there was a second 1940 census for the family, showing they were living in Ririe Village, Jefferson County, Idaho, on April 2nd of that year. They are listed in that census as follows: Clinton, 47, Emma, 44, June Maurine, 21, William, 18, Betty Ruth, 16, Clinton, Jr., 14, J. Preston, 12, Emma Lou, 10, and Norman 1 month old. This census showed that Clinton was a high school art teacher, June Maurine was a stenographer for a finance company, William was working as a bookkeeper for a retail hardware implement company, and Betty and Clinton, Jr., were listed as "new workers." For the 35 weeks Clinton, Sr., worked in 1939 his income was $1,000. No income were shown for the children in this census record.

Perhaps they were living in the Ririe Village area in early April and then moved to the Twin Falls area by mid to late April of that year and that's why they were shown in two different census records for the year of 1940.
