About Coello Merriman
According to the Minnesota Historical Socity collections Vol. 14: Coello Merriman settled in Minnesota in 1866 and resided in Hennepin County, later in Watertown; He engaged in insurance and real estate business. He was a representative in the Minnesota State Legislature in 1877 from Carver County. The 1880 Federal Census for Watertown gives Coello Merriman age 31 as a druggist and Julia aged 30 wife and housekeeper.
Obituary Coello Merriman, son of Hyra and Clara Merriman, was born December 2, 1848 in Friendship, New York, and departed this life, November 3, 1937, at the age of eighty-eight years, 11 months and one day.
In 1866 he moved with his parents to Minnesota, where he met and married Julia Tomlinson on December 31, 1871. To this union five children were born: Clairbel, Josephine and Ralph, who all preceded him in death; Roy (Hyra) of Los Angeles, California; and Frona Raumaker of Houston, Texas; 27 grandchildren, and 29 great grandchildren.
He taught school and served two terms in the state legislature in Minnesota, and while yet in that state joined the masonic order.
