He was a son of Ephraim L. Henagan and Ann Nancy McInnis Henagan, and was a Colonel of the Eighth South Carolina Regiment of Volunteers. He died while a prisoner of war at Johnson's Island, Ohio. He is buried in Johnson's Island Confederate Cemetery.
