Daniel Sherwood was a tobacco plantation owner on the Eastern shore of Maryland in Talbot Co. He was a slave owner and High Sheriff.
Daniel Sherwood was a son of Hugh Sherwood (1632-1710) and his wife Mary Brooke (1637-1707). He was the Sheriff of Talbot County from 1707 to 1709. On 26 Dec. 1689, he married Mary Hopkins (1672-1746). She was the daughter of Thomas Hopkins and Elizabeth Towe.
Daniel was an attorney, merchant and planter. He was sheriff of Talbot Co. from 1707-1709, served in the Lower House of Talbot, 1722-1724, was a justice, 1720-1733, and served on the Vestry of St. Michael's Parish (Anglican), 1735-1738. He owned around 1370 acres in Talbot and Dorchester Counties.
Daniel and Mary had twelve children: Daniel (1691-1700), Mary (c. 1693-1702), Elizabeth (1695-?, Mrs. Tembt), Hugh (1697-1731, m. Mary Russell), Thomas (1699-1723), Margaret (c. 1701-?), Mary (1704-1795, Mrs. John Auld), Catherine (c. 1705, Mrs. Skinner), Lucy, Frances (c. 1707), Daniel (1709-1767, m. Elizabeth Rice) and Dorothy (1714-?, Mrs. Elliott).
Since Daniel was a member of the Vestry of St. Michael's Church (now Christ Church, St. Micheals), I assume he would have been buried in the Church cemetery, unless he was buried on his own land.
