About Col. Ellison S. Keitt (CSA)

Col. Ellison Keitt was a brother of Col. Laurence M. Keitt, who was killed in battle during the Civil War. Col. Keitt himself was a Confederate soldier, having raised and commanded Keitt's Mounted Rifles, made up of men of Newberry County, South Carolina. After the war he has engaged in farming on a large scale, and was very successful. He served two terms in the State legislature. He was a man of high character, well educated, always interested in the welfare of the State. He took part in one or two national compaigns in New York and other Northern States. He was a man of fine appearance and a most attractive and eloquent speaker.
