About Col. James Pendleton, Jr
LifeSketch:
James Pendleton, born in 1735 and died in 1793; he was a Member of the House of Burgesses from Culpepper County, Justice of that county in 1762-3-4, and High Sheriff in 1762. He was one of the Culpepper Minute Men and later a Colonel of the Culpepper Militia in the Revolutionary War. On May 21, 1763, he succeeded his brother, Henry Pendleton, as Surveyor of the Roads. From 1782 to 1788 he was a member of the House of Delegates. In 1788 he was Sheriff of Culpepper County. In 1763 he married Catherine Bowie (1747-1795), daughter of John and Judith (Catlett) Bowie. When quite young he married Catherine Bowie, of Maryland. Died 1798, leaving nine grown children.
Col. James Pendleton((4)) (James((3)), Henry((2)), Philip((1))), was for many years a representative of Culpeper County, Va.; in the House of Burgesses and in the State Legislature, under the Commonwealth, Justice of Culpeper, Colonel of the Army of the Revolution, and High Sheriff of the county.
There are deeds showing their sale of land on the Little Fork, Rappahannock River on Mill Run, Culpepper Co., VA.
