Colonel in the State Militia. Cotton planter and lawyer. In 1843, the Legislature made him one of the original Trustees of Henderson Academy.

His ancestors were the Williams and Jones families of North Carolina and the Jones, Armistead, Tabb, and Westwood families of Virginia.

Protheus Eppes Armistead Jones (P.E.A. Jones) and Mary Hawkins Jones were married in 1835. They had eight children.
