About Col Raphael Minor Cephas Conn

The son of James Conn and Louise Wood Conn.
Wed to Drucilla Frances "Frankie" Job on March 9, 1869. Their children were:
Cora Viola L.
Irvin C. and
Mollie Louise.

43rd Regiment, Virginia Infantry Assembled during the summer of 1861 at Winchester, Virginia. However, no rolls or roster of the 43rd are known to exist. The unit failed to complete its organization. Colonel R.M. Conn was in command.

"Raphael M.C. Conn was at Hanging Rock, Hampshire County, in the winter of 1861-2 when the Page County Militia was attacked by the federals. He was sick in bed in a private home attended by a comrade, Strother Bailey (brother of Owen Bailey), who wished to remain with him but was compelled to flee. A union soldier entered the room and was about to shoot him but was restrained by an officer. Later Mr. Conn was with the confederate troops in Kentucky. From his notebook filled with entries in pencil, mostly to faint to read, these entries were gleaned. "Camp Dick Robinson, KY. March 31, 1863. Notice sent Mr. Harper, editor of a local paper, of the death of Simeon Abbott a member of our company, in General Hospital No. 2, Lexington, KY March 25, 1863. Signed A.A. Row, 1st Lieutenant Company C, 7th V.C." "
