About Col. William Bridgers
William Bridgers was born around 1678 in Isle of Wight, Virginia Colony. He was a son of Joseph Bridger and Elizabeth Norsworthy. He added the "s" to his name in 1718.
William was the first Bridger to add the 's' to his name on a deed in 1718.
On September 15, 1716, he purchased 640 acres of land on the north side of the Meherrin River in Bertie County, NC from James Gee of Surry County, VA.
On July 4, 1718, he witnessed a deed where he signed his name as 'William Bridger' but on July 16, 1718, he signed his name as 'William Bridgers' which he continued to sign his last name.
William Bridgers married Elizabeth Godwin and had 6 children: Joseph, William Jr, Samuel, Benjamin, Mary and Elizabeth.
He made his will on November 2, 1729.
