file #32,194 United States Revolutionary War Pension & Bounty Land Warrant Applications, 1800-1900

Rev War Claim file #32,194:
He certifies that he was born in Orange Co, VA. Moved with his parents to Surry Co, North Carolina when he was about 12. He resided there until about 17 years old when he removed to Henry County, Kentucky, remained there one year then removed to Overton Co, Tennessee, from which he moved about three years ago this spring. (dated Nov 19, 1832 Morgan Co, IL).

Surry Co, NC Deeds:
10 Feb 1791: Henry Herring to Bennet Creed; 100L, 150 acres on Beach Creek, No/Mid corner of county. SS/ Henry Herring.
Wit: James Bryson, John Davis, Colby Creed E/209.

Surry County, NC Deed Book K:217:
1 Dec 1795: John Hill sells 100 acres to Colby Creed.

Surry County, NC Deed Book G:190:
1 Oct 1796: Joab Hill sells 140 acres to Colby Creed. These deeds raise some puzzling questions. From the descriptions of the land in the deeds, they are clearly the same property that William Hill left to his sons, John and Jacob. The first deed, dated Dec. 1, 1795, states that Colby Creed is already in possession of Jacob's land. The second deed, which describes Jacob's land, is signed by Joab Hill, not Jacob. Clearly, Joab was a member of the family. The deed, dated Oct. 1, 1796, also states that John Hill is deceased. There is no record of the sale of James' land, yet James, John, and Joab were all members of the Big Spring Church when Thomas joined them in 1805. It is known that the Joab Hill in Claiborne County, who became an early Tennessee preacher and served in the War of 1812, was born in 1775. (See Burnett, J.J., Sketches of Tennessee's Pioneer Baptist Ministers, Nashville, 1919.) These Hills were members of the Matrimony Baptist Church in Rockingham, North Carolina.

14 March 1815: Benjamin Bowles bought 217 acres in Overton County, TN, from James Armstrong for $1,000. (Overton Co. Deeds, D, 72.)
On 15 May 1818 Benjamin Bowles of Cumberland County, Kentucky, sold to Coalby Creed for $1,600 a tract of 168 acres in Overton County.

Deeds F, Page 153. Indenture April 13, 1829:
