"Robert Hazard, 1635-1710; Robert Haszard, born in England in 1635 and came with his father to Portsmouth, R.I., in 1639. ...married Mary Brownell, daughter of Thomas and Anne Brownell. Second Generation.—Robert 2 (Thomas1), born in England, 1635, came with his father to Portsmouth, R.I.; was a deputy to the General Assembly 1664. In 1670 it appears on the records that he was a juror and a commissioner in Portsmouth. In 1671, he purchased five hundred acres of land in Kingstown, of the Pettaquamscutt purchasers, situated between Rose Hill and Saucatucket river to which he permanently removed in 1695. His children were : 1. Thomas, born 1658 ; admitted freeman in Portsmouth, 1684. 2. George, admitted freeman of the colony, 1696. 3. Stephen. 4. Robert. 5. Jeremiah. - Recollections of Olden Times

Note
He was admitted freeman of the Colony in 1696. In 1701, '02, '06, '07, '09, '13. He was Deputy; in 1703 and 1704, Assistant. May 6, 1713, he was appointed by the Assembly one of a committee to make the public road leading through the Colony from "Pawtucket River to Pawcatuck River more straight and fair and passable."1 In 1719 he was appointed Lieutenant-Colonel of Militia for the main land,2 and was ever afterward called Colonel George Hazard. He became a large landholder like his brother Thomas. In 1695 his father gave him by deed three hundred and fifty acres, being a part of the original purchase; and after the death of his mother, in 1739, he bought of his nephew, Robert Hazard, the remaining part of the farm with the manor-house.

COLONEL GEORGE HAZARD (1662-1743), a grandson of the American progenitor, THOMAS HAZARD, and the son of Robert and Mary (Brownell) Hazard, was first admitted a Freeman of the Rhode Island Colony in 1696; was Deputy 1703 and 1704, Assistant 1713, and one of a committee appointed by the Assembly to make public roads throughout the colony. In 1719 he was Lieutenant-Colonel of the Militia for the main. Through inheritance and purchase he came into possession of the original Pettaquamscutt purchase of his father, and the manor house in Moorsfield, South Kingston, where he kept a large establishment until his death. In the inventory of his personal estate there are seventeen slaves. He was interested in the first woollen mill of South Kingston, giving land for the same. His wife was Penelope, daughter of Caleb and Abigail
