Col. George Jordan-[3809] was born about 1615 in England, died on 9 Oct 1678 in Southwark Parish, Surry County, VA and was buried in Four-Mile Tree, Surry County, VA.
Immigrated to James Cittie, Virginia in 1637, sponsored by Capt. Henry Browne. Moved to Surry County near Four-mile Tree where Capt. Browne had a large plantation. Was Council of State by 1737. Member of Virginia Assembly from 1 Oct 1644 to 5 Oct 1746, and again from 1675-1676, as well as Lt. Col. in charge of Surry Garrison. Served as Attorney General for Virginia in 1670.
- MARRIAGE: First wife lies in Four-mile tree cemetery with grave marker said to be the oldest legible stone in Virginia, death date of 1650. Married Eliza Coats, which marriage was reviewed by the Virginia Assembly for its legality on on 4 Mar 1654.
- DEATH: Will dated 25 Feb 1677, with codicil dated 28 May 1678, the will was probated 9 Oct 1678. Nephew Thomas qualified as executor.
Only child to survive to maturity was daughter Fortune who married Thomas Hunt, but died without issue soon after her marriage.

"In the year 1637, George Jordan came to Virginia and is listed as a headright of Henry Browne of the James Towne Colony."
He is buried beside his wife, Alice (Myles) Jordan in the family graveyard located hear the Jordan home place.
There is only one older tombstone is that of Col. William Perry, he died in 1837. the inscription which is completely worn away.
"Four Mile Tree," located on the south side of the James River, where a tree marked the Wester Boundry of James City as defined by Gov. Argill.
His will dated March 30, 1761 and probated May 12, 1761. Inventory taken August 9, 1761 and presented to the court on February 1762.
Colonel George Jordan lived near Four Mile Tree Plantation. At this plantation, is today found one of the oldest legible tombstones in Virginia: that of George Jordan's wife, Alice. It reads: "Here lyeth the Body of Alyce Myles daughter of John Myles of Branton near Herreford Gent. and late wife of Mr. George Jordan in Virginia who departed this life the 7th of January 1650 Reader, her dust is here included who was Witt and grace composed Her life was Vertuous during health But Highly Glorous in her death."[1] [2]

His father, Arthur in his will of 1678, says he has lived in Virginia 43 years. It would therefore appear that [Arthur] immigrated in 1635. George and his brother Arthur likely came with their father. He is mentioned in association with James City County, and other sources indicate he lived southside of James River and beyond "four mile tree" the town boundary. George was Atty. General of Virginia in 1670.[3] Admr. granted Lt. Coll Geo. Jordan for orphans of Francis Hagwood, dec'd April 24, 1678.
His will requested burial in Four Mile Orchard.
