Colonel Joseph Sim, son of Patrick and Mary (Brooke) Sim, was born in Prince George's County, Maryland. He was Justice of the Supreme Court of Maryland, and attended the famous Assembly held at Annapolis on June 22, 1774, which denounced the English bill closing the port of Boston. He also represented Prince George's County at the Convention of June 15, 1775, which met in Annapolis and framed the Constitution known as the Association of the Freeman of Maryland. He served in the Convention of Maryland, which governed the province during the American Revolution, was a member of the Privy Council under the state government in 1777, and was part of the General Assembly of 1780.
Prior to 1754, Joseph Sim married Catherine Murdock (1735-1771), the daughter of William Murdock and Anne (Addison) Murdock. Catherine's maternal grandparents were Colonel Thomas Addison (1679-1729) and Elinor (Smith) Addison (1690-1761).
Joseph and Catherine resided at "Sim's Delight," Prince George's County, Maryland, and had four children: Patrick, Thomas, Anthony, and Mary. Catherine died on November 29, 1771. By November 1781, Joseph Sim was living at "Addison's Choice," in Frederick County, Maryland, and died on November 27, 1793.
