About Colonel Phillip Cole
A Patriot of the American Revolution for PENNSYLVANIA with the rank of COLONEL. DAR Ancestor #: A024213
Susanna EGLI, daughter of Marx Egli, was born 18 September 1728 in Aathal, Kanton Zurich, Switzerland. She migrated to Pennsylvania in 1747, arriving in Philadelphia August 20 (old style) together with the rest of the Marx Egli family. She was indentured for three years to pay the cost for the voyage, which was arranged by the Stedman brothers who specialized in this sort of travel arrangement.
Susanna EGLI married Phillip KOHL (I do not have the marriage date). From the start of the 1750’s Marx Egli had a frontier farm in what is now Reamstown, Pa. (The log cabin portion of Marx’s house remains in good shape —explained by the fact that he had roofed the structure with baked clay tiles.)
As I recall, Philip Kohl received a large grant of land in Western PA as part of his colonelcy appointment. He lived there on the far Pennsylvanian frontier until the “great runaway” in the early phase of the Revolution. He first moved to Maryland where he changed the spelling of the family name to COLE. He died in Virginia.
