THOMAS OWEN COLEMAN
AGE: 89 OKATIE, SC
Thomas Owen Coleman, 89, of Okatie, South Carolina. died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2010 at Beaufort Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Athens, Georgia, a son of the late Owen Adams and Eleanore Lustrat Coleman.
Tom enlisted in the Army Air Corp in WWII and was a B-25 bomber pilot in the 14th Air Force "Flying Tigers" in the China Burma India theater. He remained in the Air Force Reserves rising to the rank of Colonel.
He worked for forty years in sales for the DuPont Company in the textile fibers headquarters in New York City.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gertrude Conklin Dorrier.
Mr. Coleman was a founding member and Board Chairman of the JFK Medical Center in Edison, New Jersey. He retired to Callawassie Island in 1995 where he served on the Architectural Review Committee. He was a parishioner at St. Helena's Episcopal Church.
He is survived by his wife, Muriel of Okatie, South Carolina; three sons, Thomas O. Coleman and wife Eileen of Atlanta, Ga., James D. Coleman and wife Darlene of Atlanta, Ga., John A. Coleman of Nashville, TN; one step-son, Stephen Hubbard and wife Debbi of Boston, MA; one step-daughter, Nancy Hubbard of Brooklyn, New York; one brother, RADM Joseph Lustrat Coleman of Jacksonville, Florida; two grandchildren, Dorrier and Benjamin; two step-grandchildren, Christopher and Alexander.
The family will receive friends Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010 from 6-8:00 P.M. at Copeland Funeral Service. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 20, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Helena's Episcopal Church. Burial will follow in Beaufort National Cemetery with military honors. A reception will follow at the Callawassie Country Club at 1:00pm.
