Constance (39). was found tied up and strangled in her home in Tygerdal, Cape Town, on 9th March 2006, by her son. Unable to open his mother's bedroom door, her son alerted a neighbour who found van der Merwe/Le Roux in her bedroom about 06h45, with her hands tied behind her back.

Superintendent Billy Jones said: "The woman's teenage son, who was alone with her while his father was on a trip to Johannesburg, awoke up this morning to find their house was in a mess." Jones said it appeared that van der Merwe/Le Roux had been strangled. A post-mortem would be conducted.
