Cornelius married first Olive Messenger prob abt 1800 of Madison Co, NY. Their children: Sabrina Burright Hoose b 4 Mar 1803 Deruyter, Madison, NY;Ashbel Feb 1805 Deruyter, Madison, NY; Orrin and Warren (twins) b 14 May 1809 Deruyter, Madison, NY;Alanson b 3 Mar 1814 German twp, Chenango, NY; Milton b 25 Dec 1815 German twp, Chenango, NY; Harriet Burright Cavett b 1824 Geauga (Lake) OH.


"Although no record has been found on the second marriage of Cornelius in 1828, the census records confirm this, if 1827 was the correct date of the death of his first wife, Olive. An Ogle County, ILL, biographical account as to Milton Burright, born in 1815, a son of Cornelius, grandson of John Burright, states that his mother, Olive, died in Licking County, Ohio in 1827, and that his father remarried the following year. The 1830 U.S. Federal Census for St. Albans twp., Licking County, Ohio for Cornelius Burhight and family, shows one female, age 40-50, which would appear to be his second wife. In the 1840 census, Cornelius is shown to be with his son, Orrin Burright, in Washington twp., Van Wert County, Ohio, and there is no female listed that could be the second wife."

Note: Holland descent; last name may have been Burhite, Barheyt, Barhite, Barrite, or Barnhite. Some records indicate that he was of English decent and his predecessors went to Holland when the English were subject to Christian persecution. His predecessors came to America, landed in Connecticut, to avoid their children from marrying Hollanders. The records indicate that their English name was Burright and they may have changed their name to Barhite (giving it a Dutch pronunciation). Inscription: 98 yrs. & 7 mos. 1774-1873

Died....Burright - On Sunday, Jan. 29th, at the residence of his son, Mr. Milton Burright, near Washington Grove, Cornelius Burright, aged 99 years. This appeared in the Feb 20, 1873 issue of The Ogle County Reporter, page 4.

There are records indicating that their English name was Burright and they may have changed their name to Barhite/Barheit/Barhydt (giving it a Dutch pronunciation).
