Voth, Hoffnungsau. - Cornelius Voth was born on April 1st, 1850 in the village of Waldheim, southern Russia. In 1869 he was on the confession of his faith by Aelt. Peter Wedel baptized and thus a member of the Alexanderwohler congregation. On October 22nd, 1872, he and Cornelia Heidebrecht entered St. Marriage. The young couple joined the great Mennonite emigration to America in 1874. It settled in McPherson Co., Kansas, near the Hoffnungsau Church, which was later built, and has learned to a large extent the hardships, complaints and hardships that the pioneering life brought with it. When the Hoffnungsau congregation merged soon afterwards, Br. Voth was its co-founder and was always a very active member who always served her faithfully in word and deed. He was a longstanding member and chairman of the administrative authority. And when the current church was built about 30 years ago, the congregation found in him a very insightful member of the building committee who was willing to make all sacrifices. In 1920 the Voths moved to the town of Buhler. Here they were allowed to celebrate their golden wedding in 1922 with their children and some friends. Increasing old age and ailments made it necessary that they had to be brought to the Bethel Hosptial, Newton in January 1st. J. The faithful and dedicated service of the sisters is recognized with deep gratitude by the family. Br. Voth had recently completely lost his spiritual freshness and his good memory. But in his bright moments he felt this painfully. Married to his now grieving wife, he lived for over 55 years. She was blessed with 13 children and of the 11 daughters four preceded him into eternity and this summer also a daughter-in-law. 7 of the 44 grandchildren died and two of the 15 great-grandchildren. On June 19th he became seriously ill and on the 26th his hour of redemption struck. So he has his. Age brought to 78 years, 2 months, and 25 days. The funeral ceremony took place on July 1st from the Hoffnungsau Church. Aelt. A. J. Dyck directed the same and the Sermon. A. Ratzlaff, Pet. Flaming and P.R. Voth each gave a short speech. The conductor ended up at the grave. In between, a quartet sang several suitable songs, which in particular had a comforting and uplifting effect on the relatives. (CBB 26 Jul 1928 p. 7)
Voth, Hoffnungsau.
Voth in letzter Zeit völlig verlassen.
Aelt. A. J. Dyck leitete dieselbe und die Pred. A. Ratzlaff, Pet.
