"Obituary of James W. Logan, War Veteran

James W. Logan was born in Perry county, Illinois, in 1840, and died at his home in Pinckneyville, Illinois, January 29, 1917.

He grew to manhood in Perry county, and was united in marriage to Evelyn Wilson in 1860.

To this union was born nine children, six of whom have preceeded him to the Great Beyond, and three with his wife still survive him. They are: Alice, of Mt. Glen; Kate, of Cobden, and A.J. of this city; one sister, Mrs. Robt. Carrick, of Oakdale; eighteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren are left to mourn the loss of a loved one, but their loss is his gain.

At the age of 21, he enlisted in the Civil War as a corporal August 15, 1861 and was mustered in for three years' services, September 15, 1861 in Company A 31st Regiment Illinois Volunteer Infantry. He served these three years and re-enlisted January 5, 1864 for three years as a veteran. He served until the close of the war, and was honorably discharged.

He was a member of the Free Will Baptist church, and was a man well loved by all who knew him.

Funeral services were held at the late residence in this city, Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by Rev. Mal. Keene. Interment took place at I.O.O.F. cemetery."

James W. Logan served in the Union Army during the American Civil War in Company A, 31st Illinois Infantry Regiment. He entered service on 15 Aug 1861 and mustered in on 18 Sep 1861 in Cairo, IL. He re-enlisted as a Veteran on 5 Jan 1864 in Big Black, MS and mustered out on 19 Jul 1865 in Louisville, KY.
