About Corporal Samuel Rinier
The son of Benjamin & Susan (Esbin or Eastburn) Rineer [sic], in 1860 he was a quarryman living with his family in Drumore Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He stood 5' 7" tall and had sandy hair and gray eyes.
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in West Chester, Chester County, June 4, 1861, mustered into federal service at Baltimore, Maryland, July 26 as a private with Co. E, 1st Pennsylvania Reserves (30th Pennsylvania Infantry), and promoted to corporal, date unknown. He re-enlisted as a Veteran Volunteer December 29, 1863, at Bristow, Virginia, and on May 31, 1864, when the Pennsylvania Reserve Corps ended its existence, transferred to Co. F, 190th Pennsylvania Infantry, to complete his term of service. He honorably discharged with his company July 28, 1865, in Harrisburg.
