About Cpl. Henry Frasher Pounds, (USA)

Henry Frasher Pound served in the Civil War, from 7/25/1863 - 8/23/1865; in the US Army, he reached rank of Corporal in Co. M. 2nd Regt. OVHA.

From the other records and obituaries of his brothers' Mathias, and Richard. They were born in Mercer City, PA; and in the year of 1840 moved to Fairview, Ohio. He was a resident of the community for more than 67 years. He was elected county commissioner in 1859, serving two terms and has filled other official positions among them being the Justice of the Peace of Paint township for 27 years. In politics he was a staunch Democrat casting his first Presidential ballot for James K. Polk in 1844, and voted in the same township for over 60 years, never missing an election.

During his life he was a man of remarkable ruggedness (a trait which most all Pounds men seem to share) until he suffered a stroke of Paralysis, rapidly decreasing his quality of life; thus passing him on via heart failure. He was a man of strong and forceful character and exact in his business dealings, kind and indulgent as a husband and father; public spirited and generous as a citizen.

His internment was made at West Lawn Cemetary, Winesburg, Ohio.

Holmes County Farmer, Holmes County Ohio, March 5 1903.
