About Cyprien B. Roche

He served in the French Army from 1830 to 1837. He graduated garde de yinie (sic), decorated Knight of the Legion of Honor in 1836. While in the army, he made the conquest of Algeria and was decorated at the Storm of Constantine.

From writing of Cyprien Roche: Here again, the few records which I have from France having been burned up in Cormmerie L' - I will give the best of my knowledge and if some be concerned, they may have the opportunity to inquire.

The ancesters of the family hundreds of years ago originated in the dep of Ardiche, France until 1720 when Antoine Roche, Sergeant of Lassquenet (sic) in the service of Louis XV moved to Alais dep gard. The grandson of Antoine Roche was born in the latter part of the 18th century, and he took part in the great Revolution of France in 1789. His name was Jean Antoine Roche born at Alais dep gard France. He introduced the tannery in that city, and in the year 1992 saved the child of the Marquise of Frousac. The Marquise of Fronsac, a royalist, living in his castle stronghold on the river Dordoyne was attacked by the mob, and his family executed. Only one child was saved by my grandfather, Harriet de Fronsac. This child was raised to womanhood, and in the early part of 1800, married Jean Antoine Roche. Jean Antoine Roche served under Napoleon and died in the battlefield, leaving three children, Louis born in 1807 (died 1846); Cyprien (my father), born in 1810 (died 1872); and Cesar, born 1812 (died 1855). My grandmother, the Marquisea, I never see because she died very young.
