About Cyrus Walter Pratt

He was the son of Ezra Pratt and his wife Hannah. He was first the husband of Emily Alger, only daughter that I know of of Levi Alger and Grace Coffey of Monroe, Orange County, New York. Cyrus and Emily were married on September 16, 1842. Emily died on August 22, 1845 but first they had a daughter Sarah Emily Pratt who eventually had two husbands (Hiram Pitcher and William Hazeleton). Emily died at age 25 years. She was about 10 years younger than her brother, Charles Coffey Alger (July 4, 1809 to July 13, 1874), who was one of my great, great grandfathers. I only know of there being two children of Levi Alger and his wife Grace Coffey - Charles Coffey Alger and Emily F. Alger.

Soon after the death of Emily, Cyrus married a first cousin of Emily's (Harriet Coffey) on May 13, 1847 and they had a son, Charles Walter Pratt. Harriet Coffey was a daughter of John Coffey, Jr. and thus was a first cousin of Cyrus's first wife, Emily F. Alger, the only daughter known to me of Levi Alger and Grace Coffey, Grace being a sister of John Coffey, Jr., the father of Harriet.

According to information in the supplemental genealogy for "The Pratt family or The descendants of Lieut. William Pratt, one of the first settlers of Hartford and Say-Brook" which is 64 pages and which was published in 1916, Cyrus Pratt died at Bergen, New Jersey and is buried at Turners, New York which is one of the old town names for the area where the Coffey family cemetery is located in Monroe - Southfields - Turners -Central Valley, Orange County, New York.

The Pratt supplemental genealogy says that he was a tanner and Currier and resided at Greig, Lewis County, York and also had a leather store at 82 Gold Street, New York. He is buried with his first wife Emily at the old Coffey farm of John Coffey, Sr. and his wife Experience who bought the farm before the first census of 1790 after moving from the Lee area of Berkshire County, Massachusetts. The old New York farm of the Coffey family is now the Woodbury Commons Shopping Center. The Pratt genealogy says that Cyrus Pratt's second wife, Harriet Coffey, is buried at Boonville, New York.
