About Daniel Anderson
COLONIAL TIMES-HOBART-Tuesday, 9th June 1857
Fatal Boat Adcident. - On Saturday evening last, about 8 o'clock, Daniel and George Anderson, sons of Mr. Anderson, of Sandy Bay Point, and Edward Vince, son of Mr. Vince, of the Retreat, Crayfish Point, were going in a four-oared whale boat on a visit to Mr. McLeod, of Muddy Plains (uncle to the Andersons) : and while in Ralph's Bay between the Mill and Risby's farm, by some unfortunate accident, there being no wind at the time, the boat capsized and turned keel up- George Anderson got onto the keel, and crying out for help, a man of the name of Cross, who resides at Muddy Plains, went to his assistance and rescued him from a watery grave. His brother Daniel was drowned alongside the boat ; the body has not yet been found. Vince, who it appears was an excellent swimmer, endeavoured to gain the shore, but he had not long been in the water before he sunk being seized probably with cramp as the night was very cold ; his body was found about 9 o'clock on Sunday morning.
Note-Edward Vince-Death reg # 75 died 8th June, 1857 (according to registration paper
Daniel Anderson-Death reg#76 died 10th of June-ditto. This must have been the date that a doctor officially declared these men dead.LB The Mr. McLeod in the article would be Alexander, mother Elizabeth's younger brother-who was a whaler.
