About Daniel Densmore

DANIEL DENSMORE (9th child of John & Dorcus Densmore)

Daniel Densmore was born Jan. 10, 1836 in Pittsfield Township, Washtenaw Co. Mich., moving to Ingham County with his parents in 1840, when young Daniel was four years of age, here he spent his school and young manhood days in and around the old homestead. He must have started and complete his education at the old Howard school where most of his brothers and sisters did.

In 1838, he was united in marriage to Jane Squires at Sumpter, Mich. and the couple commenced keeping house at Saline, Mich., later they moved to Ingham Co., living at different places.

Jan. 4, 1864, Daniel enlisted in Company "B" 3rd. Mich. Cavalry, and was sent to a Western Post to serve in the Great Civil War. After a lapse of several months, he came home on a furlough to visit his young wife also three young sons but soon returned to his company and was taken sick and after a short illness, passed away at Lake Bluff, Arkansas, Sept. 1, 1864. Thus another young life was blotted out by a "cruel war" when only 28 years of age and not only this, but a young widow and 3 young sons, 2, 4 & 5 years of age, experienced life without a husband and a much needed "daddie." Daniel was buried at Little Rock, Ark. And the number of his grave is 435.

Daniel was the first of the 12 children to pass to the "great beyond" and Jane, his wife, passed away Dec. 27, 1883, when only in the prime of life and although Daniel and his wife seemed to have completed their early tasks so early in life, leaving the 3 sons, the Christian principles exemplified in the lives of this father and mother were so injected into the lives of their 3 sons that these principals of living never departed from them.

Daniel left 3 sons: Charles, George and William
