About Daniel Henry Donovan
Anglo Boer War
Donovan, Daniel Henry
Infantry trooper, Imperial Yeoman
Trooper # 30304
111th (Yorkshire Dragoons) Company, raised 1901 - to South Africa
My grandmother used to tell me the story of how her father was a typical alcoholic miner. On Friday nights after he got paid he would go into the town and get roaring drunk.
Then as a young girl, she would have to take their one donkey into town, and get him onto the animal and bring him home.
They were incredibly poor.
He died fairly yound of silicosis from the mines.
He bought land in Pilgrims Rest that the government denies exists.
