About Daniel Franklin Gunn

Daniel Franklin Gunn Sr., son of John and Mary Gunn was born in Caswell Co., North Carolina in 1763. He died in Jones County, Georgia on September 25, 1825 at age 62. On January 26, 1786 in Person's County, North Carolina he married Susan Street. At sixteen years of age he enlisted in the military in Caswell County North Carolina to serve in the American Revolution where he fought for five years.

Daniel and his brother John served under General Nathanial Green at the Battle of Eutaw Springs, South Carolina. John was killed at this battle.

In 1790 D.F. Gunn was living in Nash's district of Caswell County, North Carolina.

Around 1799 Daniel and his brother Jesse Thomas Gunn Sr. migrated to Wilkes County, Georgia. Daniels grandson James M. Gunn later knick-named his only child "Wilkes" Gunn because this was the county that this Gunn line first came to in Georgia.

In 1807 Jones County, Georgia was created. Daniel drew land lot 76/12 in Captain M. Henderson's District. This GMD is presently in Wilkerson County. He drew this land lot from Wilkes county, that is presently Baldwin county where he was residing at the time.

Around 1810 he resettled in that part of extreme N.W. Jones County, Georgia near the town of Hillsboro. In the 1811 Jones County Tax Digest Daniel Gunn appears in Captain C.B Harrison's District.

On September 25, 1825 Daniel Franklin Gunn Sr. died at home in Jones County, Georgia. The 1826 Jones County Estate Records show "the renting of the land and hiring of the negros".

In 1853, his widow, Susan Street applied for his Revolutionary War Pension. She died on October 31, 1856. Mrs. Susie Alexander of Hillsboro, is a decendent of Daniel Franklin Gunn Sr.
