Information from Russell S. Hall:
"Daniel Hall, Sr., the seventh son of eight sons of John and Martha Gladden Hall, was born in 1803 in Fairfield County, S. C. He was a planter and slave owner on a large scale. His plantations encompassed 6,000 acres of land in Fairfield and Chester Counties, S. C. He owned another plantation he called Blackjack six miles east of the Chester Courthouse. His plantation in Fairfield was called Hog Fork, where he built a fine plantation home and reared a family of nine children.
"Daniel married Mary McCullough in 1824. Mary died in 1856, and Daniel married Sarah Jane Hicklin (1835-1913) in 1858. Children were born to both unions. Daniel and his brother, Dr. William E. Hall, gave the funds for the building of Bethesda Methodist Church in the Mitford Community of Fairfield County, S. C."
