

HAYS -- Daniel J. Hammerschmidt, 75, Hays, died Monday, Feb. 11, 1991, at St. Anthony's Hospital, Hays.
Mr. Hammerschmidt was born July 7,1915, at Emmeram.
He was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II. He was a farmer, a retired Ellis County road and bridge department employee and formerly owned Dan's Locksmith. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion, Hays.
Survivors include his wife, Edna of the home; two sons, Elden and Elvis, both of Hays; a daughter, Lea Mae Von Feldt of Hays; a brother, Joe of Victoria; three sisters, Sister Anna Josita Hammerschmidt of Salina, Mary Schulte of Victoria and Clara Kuhn of Ellis; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays, the Rev. Matthew Gross officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery with military rites. A vigil will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hays Memorial Chapel.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice of St. Anthony's. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
