Daniel "Danie" Hugo (1948 - 2002)

Danie (54) owner of a medical distribution company, was shot by an armed attacker at his business in Koedoespoort, Pretoria, on 16th April 2002.

He was shot at the front door, and he stumbled into the building and called his wife. He passed away minutes before she could get to him.

  • Capt. Sebola said that in another incident, a man was killed in Pretoria the night before on 15th April. He and his girlfriend (31) were walking on a footpath near Olievenhoutbosch in Centurion, when they were attacked by two men, at least one of them armed. The man was beaten and shot twice in the chest. The killers stole only his mobile phone, and threw his body into a stream. The attackers dragged the woman to a nearby forest. She was shot in one of her legs before she was raped by both men. The severely traumatised woman was taken to Kalafong Hospital for treatment.

Tertius Zitske, chairman of the Pretoria Chamber of Commerce, said they are outraged by the murder of Hugo, and that an action plan to end violence in the Jakaranda City must end. "He was one of the most respected businessmen in the city and we are furious because he was killed for nothing and no reason. Enough is enough, we as businessmen must now stand together, Zitske said.
