1943, Nov 8 - Waterloo Daily Courier " Mahoney Rites At Independence Will be Tuesday"
Deceased in Railroad Work Over 40 Years; Leaves Wife, 6 Children.Independence - Funeral services for Daniel E Mahoney, 73, will be held Tuesday at 2 pm from the Swan funeral home, with Rev H W Singer, pastor of the First Methodist church, in charge. Burial will be made in Oak Grove cemetery. Mr Mahoney died at the family home in the Fifth ward Saturday, following a brief illness. The son of Timothy and Ann Mahonoy, he was born on a farm in northeast Buchanan county, Dec 23, 1870. He received his education in the rural schools and as a youth walked back and forth to Stanley from his home, learning telegraphy and station work at the Great Western station. Following his attaining young manhood he took a job with the Great Western railroad, and was steadily employed in railroad work for more than 40 years. On Jan 23, 1895, he married Miss Mary L Whisennand, of the Troy Mills vicinity, the couple first making their home in Oelwein, five years later moving to Ingalton, IL, where he remained for three years, then being transferred to Stanley, lA, where he served as agent for 35 years. Retiring in 1937 the family moved to Independence which had since been their home. Mr Mahoney is survived by his widow and six children, Carl, Stanley; Miss Leta Mahoney, Waterloo; Mrs Ann B Cavanaugh. Independence; Mrs Ruth Lewis, Clearwater, Fla; Mrs Helen Cunningham, Waterloo, and Mrs Jane Reeser, Sycamore, IL; also 11 grandchildren.
