Daniel F. "John" Mastin, 83, of Spotsylvania, VA, died on August 2, 2009 at his residence.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth Mastin; his children Joan Gardner and her husband, Mark, and Patricia Wolfrey and her husband, Carl, Danny Mastin and his wife, Madlyn, all of Spotsylvania, and Emily Stafford and her husband, Peter of Stafford; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
John Mastin was a lifetime member and deacon of Mine Road Baptist Church. Mr. Mastin served his country during World War II in the United States Army. He was an active and lifetime member, athletic director and past commander of the Spotsylvania American Legion Post 320.
As a long time auctioneer, he was a member and past president of the Virginia Association of Auctioneers, Mr. Mastin was awarded auctioneer of the year and became a member of the Virginia Hall of Fame Auctioneers. Mr. Mastin served on the Spotsylvania Planning Commission. He received the Governor Spotswood Award from Spotsylvania County.
A funeral service and interment will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 7, 2009 at Mine Road Baptist Church, Spotsylvania. The Rev. Clyde Coleman, Rev. Dave Russell and Rev. Ray Farrow will officiate.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 6, 2009 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home, Locust Grove, Va.
