About Daniel Mayes
Daniel Mayes was a lawyer, professor and a judge. He got his license in 1825. He was a law proffessor at Transylvanai College in KY. He was also a legislator & Circuit Judge in KY. In the winter of 1838, he moved to Jackson, MS with his family. He purchased a farm (Montverde) 2 miles away from Jackson on the Clinton Road. He left Jackson in 1850 for a professorship at the University of Louisiana. He returned to Jackson in 1852. He continued practicing law in MS until his death.
