Daniel served in The Revolutionary War as a private in a Connecticut regiment. In Durham, NY, he was a farmer and part owner of a sawmill. There he was a founder of the Presbyterian Church. Later Daniel, his son Samuel and grandson John Bocking became ministers in the Methodist-Episcopal Church.
