- "Daniel P. O'Connell, 74, of Glastonbury, CT, beloved husband of Nancy (Oliva) O'Connell, died on July 9th, 2016 peacefully at his home.
- "He was born on August 8th, 1941 in Hartford, CT, son of the late J. Benedict O'Connell and Helene (McDonnell) O'Connell. Dan resided in Glastonbury for the past 45 years.
- "Prior to his retirement from United Technologies, Dan was Corporate Director of Compensation and Benefits. Mr. O'Connell attended St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield, CT and graduated from St. John's Seminary in Brighton, MA. He received his MBA from the University of Connecticut Storrs.
- "Dan excelled in graduate work in Biblical Studies. At St. Augustine Church in South Glastonbury, Dan was a Eucharistic Minister, lector and taught Bible Study for over forty years. He was also a trustee, a member of the Financial and Parish Councils and was a recipient of the Archdiocesan St. Joseph Medal. Dan was a Knight of Malta, and original founder and director of the Malta House of Care in Hartford, CT.
- "He was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Saint Francis Hospital, a member of its Foundation Board and Co-Chairman of the Valencia Society of the Hospital. Dan was extremely honored to have received the 2016 Spirit Award in appreciation of his leadership and commitment to Saint Francis.
- "In addition, Dan also served as Chairman of the Board of the Enfield Montessori School in Enfield, CT. He was predeceased by his loving son, John T. O'Connell and two brothers, Dr. Paul B. O'Connell and J. Benedict O'Connell.
- "Besides his wife, Dan is survived by his sister, Mary Ann Maggitti of West Chester, PA, a nephew, several nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces and many cousins. He also leaves his very special friends Jim and Sheila Perretta and the George Budnik family. The family would like to thank the following Doctor's, Bilgrami, Chawla, Chovich, Cohen, Lahiri, Olsen, Sporn, Wade, Vredenburgh, Kathy Noone and the nurses and staff on 8 1, Christopher Dadlez and Sheri Lemieux for their kindness and compassion shown to Dan during his illness. ** "A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am on Thursday, July 14th, 2016 at the Cathedral of St. Joseph, 140 Farmington Avenue, Hartford, CT, 06105. Friends may pay their respects from 9:00 to 10:30 am prior to the Mass. Burial will be private.
