Daniel was a Quaker in NJ and a soldier in the American Revolutionary War. He moved his family to Stokes County, North Carolina before 1790 (Daniel Stockton is in the Stokes County 1790 census records). A gravesite has not been located for Daniel, but it is reported that he died April 18, 1804, in the area now known as Forsyth County (in 1849, Stokes County was divided into Stokes and Forsyth counties).

Daniel was the cousin to Richard Stockton (1730-1781), a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Richard was the first of the New Jersey delegation to sign it, and the only one punished as he was imprisoned by the British for the sole purpose of having signed the Declaration.

Daniel Stockton served with Patriot Service in New Jersey in the Revolutionary War.
