The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Daniel Davis Wheeler, United States Army, for distinguished bravery in action on 3 May 1863, while serving with Company G, 4th Vermont Infantry, in action at Salem Heights, Fredericksburg, Virginia, where he was wounded and had a horse shot from under him.
