Daniel C. Wilhelm, was a Private, Company C, 20th Regiment, North Carolina State Troops (Infantry), which was originally organized as the 10th Regiment North Carolina Volunteers. He was born in Cabarrus County, where he resided as a farmer prior to enlisting at the age of 30, April 18, 1861. Mustered in as a Private, he was present and accounted for until wounded at or near Gaines' Mill, Virginia, on or about Jun 27, 1862. He returned to duty prior to September 10, 1862, when he was captured near Frederick, Maryland and confined at Fort Delaware, Delaware, until paroled and transferred to City Point, Virginia, where he was received December 18, 1862, for exchange. He was "present and accounted for" until he died in hospital at Richmond, Virginia, June 19, 1863, of "Scorbutus" (Scurvy).

1850 Cabarrus County, North Carolina Census, p. 474 Daniel C. Wilhelm, age 19, is living with Mathew Cooh, age 38, and his wife Mary, age 27, and their five children. Mathew Cooh was born in Germany and he is merchant/farmer. Two other men live with the family. Daniel's occupation is farmer.
