Hurricane, Utah

Darlene Smedley Toner of Hurricane, Utah passed away Tuesday May 28, 2013 following a long courageous battle with colon cancer.

She was born October 1, 1938 in Burley, Idaho to parents Forrest and Deloris "Thompson" Smedley. She married Kerry "Wade" Toner on November 14, 1955 in Burley, ID on his return from U. S. Navy boot camp.

Always a people person, Dar's greatest pride was her wonderful family and great circle of friends Growing up in Burley, ID she started her venture with husband Wade at age 17 when they moved to California and spent four years in the Navy. Daughter Carrie was born in 1956. Discharged from the Navy in 1959, they moved back to Burley ID for a short time. In 1960 they moved to Brigham City, UT, where Dar ran the camera bar/ cosmetics section at Grand American. Wade worked at Thiokol Chemical Corp. Son Steve was born in 1960. Son Scott was born 1964. In 1968 the family moved to Ogden, UT, where Dar worked for Sears and then as an insurance broker for several years. Wade worked for Hardy Scales, and then Kenway Engineering in Bountiful, UT. While living in North Salt Lake and later in Roy, UT. Dar worked as the office manager for Rapt Trucking. They retired in 1996. In 2004 Dar & Wade moved to Hurricane, UT buying the home his mom & Dad built. Throughout the years, Dar & Wade enjoyed traveling, bowling, archery, golf & gaming.

Darlene is survived by her husband Wade of Hurricane, UT, her daughter Carrie Toner-Unck (Glen) of Henderson, NV, son Steven Toner (Jeanne) of Draper, UT, son Scott Toner (Debbie) of Woods Cross, UT, Twenty grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

She is also survived by her sister Carole Leatham of Burley, ID, sister Marla Averett (Rod) of Mesquite, NV, sister Bonnie Germer (Ron) of Brigham City, UT, brother Merlin Smedley (Jane) of Burley, ID, sister LaDonn Goodfellow ( Guy) of Heyburn, ID, sister Rhonda Clark (Rob) of Hansen, ID.

She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Terry and granddaughter Teri Lynn.

Following cremation, a graveside service will be held Saturday, June 1, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hurricane cemetery.

A celebration of life is planned at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday June 29, 2013 at the Highland House, 8052 S. Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, UT.

Arrangements made under the care of Heideman Hughes Mortuary, 1037 E. 700 S. St George, UT (435-674-5000). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Foundation of Dixie Regional Medical Center for cancer programs.
