David Burnett Carter

Alan Barber made this suggestion: If the birthdates on the gravestones of Virginia Carter & David B. Carter are accurate, David and Anna Chastain Carter could not have had the same mother. And after a careful analysis of the 1810, 1820, and in particular, the 1840 Morgan Co. census, I have concluded that Virginia Jane Carter (daughter of Joseph III) married first Joseph McKinney, and married second David Burnett Carter.

In other words, David's wife Virginia McKinney & Virginia Carter were the same person; and David was not Joseph III's son, but his son-in-law (likely a son of his brother Ammon).
