About David Comstock Coon
GEDCOM Note
In "The Sabbath Recorder" (SDB Church paper) Volumes 23 thru 28 covering the years 1867 thru 1872, David Coon is shown as a continuing subscriber to the paper.
In 1884 he was the contractor for building the new SDA Church at Lincklaen Center, NY
Clinton Jared Coon (My Uncle) said in a letter dated 5 Feb 1963 that David Comstock Coon was of Quaker birth. I find this hard to believe since his father and mother, Luke and Lydia, were both members of the Berlin, NY and DeRuyter, NY SDB Churches.
Luke and Lydia are shown as members of the DeRuyter SDB Church at a reorganization in 1816 and are shown in the "Names of persons who have held membership in the SDB Church of DeRuyter since Sept. 15, 1815."
Luke's children, Annis, Clarke and Luke, Jr. are also shown as members " since Sept. 15, 1815."
The first record I have found of David Comstock being a member of the SDB Church is at the age of 20 in the Lincklaen Church in 1848. ( "Membership Records of Seventh Day Baptists of Central New York State 1797 - 1940's ") by Ilou M. Sanford
From the SDB Church records, it would appear that Luke was a continuing member of the DeRuyter SDB Church from 1815 until his death in1847
Clinton also says that David Comstock Coon was reared by a SDB family named Burdick after his mother died in 1829.
