In 1785, he (David Corwin) was taken by his father to Kentucky. In 1798, he removed to Lebanon, Ohio, and became a merchant. Had been a farmer. While engaged as a merchant, his son sat on a keg of powder with a lighted cigar, and a spark caused an explosion, killing the boy, and blowing up the store. He then engaged in speculation in lower Kentucky, for a number of years, and subsequently farmed in different localities in Ohio. He once kept a hotel at Urbana, Ohio. On his ninety-fourth birthday, 1870, a picnic of the Corwins of Warren Co., Ohio, was held in his honor. He has black eyes, dark skin, hair once dark, now snowy white, and is noted for his proverbial kindness of heart."
