Biographical Summary

"Sir David Cunynghame, Baronet [S. 1702], of Milncraig and Livingstone aforesaid, 1st b. and h. by 1st wife ; b. 14 Aug. 1769, in the Canongate, Edinburgh ; sue. to the estate of Gogar on the death, 1774, of his maternal grandfather abovenamed ; entered the 3d Foot Guards, being Capt. in the campaign of 1793 ; was in the actions of Famars and St. Amand, the siege of Valenciennes, the storming of Lincelles, and was severely wounded ; was in the action at Ostend, May 1798, where he was taken prisoner; becoming, eventually, Colonel in the Army. He suc. to the Baronetcy, 17 Jan. 1828, and alienated, not only the estate of Gogar, but the whole of his Scottish estates. He m. firstly, in 1801, Maria Thurlow, spinster, illegit. da. of Edward (Thurlow), 1st Baron Thurlow, Lord Chancellor, 1778-92. She d. 21 Feb. 1816. He m. secondly, 31 March 1817, Gertrude Henrietta, da. of William Kimpton, of Ampthill, Beds. She d. 1842. He d. 19 May 1854, at his residence, St. Helier, Jersey, in his 85th year."
