About David Jacob Eisenhower

David was determined to get a college education and more interested in engineering than in farming. He taught himself Greek in order to be able to read the Bible in Greek. David persuaded his father, Jacob to let him attend Lane University, a small college founded by the United Brethren in Christ, an evangelical group not in any way associated with the Mennonites. There he met a pretty, bright, and determined young woman named Ida Elizabeth Stover. Ida was not only a religious pacifist; because she had grown up in Virginia after the Civil War, her opposition to war and killing, was, if anything even stronger than David’s.
