About David Erskine, 11th Earl of Buchan

BUCHAN, DAVID STEUART, EARL OF, sixth of the house of Erskine, but the eleventh from the period when the earldom was conferred upon James Steuart, son of Sir James Steuart, the Black Knight of Lorn, by his wife Jane, Queen of Scotland, widow of James I. and mother of James II. ; born 1742 ; married, 1771, Margaret, eldest daughter of William Fraser, of Fraserfield, Aberdeen shire, but by her (who died 1819; had no issue. The Earl was a friend of Burns ; he died 1829, and was succeeded by his nephew, Henry David Erskine.
