About David Aaron Gage, Jr.

October 28, 1779: Witness to a deed, Rutherford County land records, 1785, 1787 and 1788.

October 10, 1785: Appointed Constable; Appointed Juror 1785, 1787, and 1788.

Appears in the 1790 census of Rutherford County, North Carolina, with 1 male over 16, 2 males under 16, and 4 females (he and his wife with 2 sons & 3 daughters).

After 1790: Left North Carolina with Aaron Gage, apparently attracted by offers of land which would be given to prospective settlers, in the State of Kentucky. These grants were commonly called "headright claims" which were granted to anyone who would settle and clear the land. The settlers were to settle on and improve the land and that was the only condition.

1799: Appraiser for the estate of David Shipman, Warren County, Kentucky.

Appears in the 1800 census of Kentucky along with Aaron Gage and John Gage.

November 6, 1809: Acted as attorney for Moses Gage, son of Reuben (his brother), in selling a tract of land in Warren County, Kentucky.... per Lynn Gage Cunningham 11/27/99

November 1794 Ebenezer Baptist Church and Cemetery, Henderson, North Carolina, United States Reason This Information Is Correct Ebenezer Baptist Church on U.S. 64 East and Howard Gap Road taken from the gravestone at the cemetery. http://hendersonheritage.com/ebenezer-baptist-church-and-cemetery/ Legend states that his body was brought to what later became Henderson County. Some of his children had moved to this section prior to his death. The problem with the old legend is that Ebenezer Baptist Church was not established at the time of the death of Jacob Shipman. “His older sons, Edward and John, were living in Henderson County,” wrote descendant James B. King in the Heritage of Henderson County. “His body was carried by wagon by his sons to Ebenezer Baptist Church, where he was buried, a trip that took three days.” The Shipman family is noted on the 1790 census in Rutherford County. Two sons moved into what is today Henderson County prior to 1794. But, Jacob Shipman never lived in today’s Henderson County. It is possible that he is not buried at the site and the stone is a memorial monument. Old Tryon Co. NC was changed into Rutherford and Lincoln Counties in North Carolina. Buncombe was cut from Rutherford and Henderson was cut from Buncombe so that the Mud Creek in Rutherford Co. was the same as Mud Creek in Henderson Co. where Jacob Shipman and Abraham Kuykendall are buried. The Simon Kuykendall who witnessed Jacob Shipman's will is the son of Abraham Kuykendall.
