About David Avery Hess

D. Avery Hess, 94, of Lancaster R2, died Sat- urday morning at the home of his daughter, Anna May Habecker, with whom he resided. He had been under a physician's care.

Born in Quarryville, he was the son of the late Conrad Z. and Ada Sue Keen Hess and the husband of the late Mary I. Murry Hess who died in April, 1966. A farmer, he had operated a stand in Central Market most of his farming life until his retirement in 1975.

He was an honorary trustee and member of the Masonville Mennonite Church and Sunday school, and the former treasurer of that church's cemetary.

In addition to his daughter Anna May, wife of Charles Habecker, he is survived by seven other children: Mahlon M, Millersville R1; Elvin M., Washington Boro R1; Erma, wife of Rufus Shelly, Elizabethtown; Ella, wife of Mahlon High, Columbia R2; Ruth, wife of Earl Chap- man, Elizabethtown; Alta, wife of Elmer Mc- Donald, Anchorage, Alaska; Verna, wife of David Swartz, Lancaster; 19 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 15 great-grand- children; and five step-great-grandchildren. A son, David A., is deceased.

Three sisters also survive: Mrs. Ruth Hoffman and Buela, wife of Henry Hostetter, both of Messiah Village, Mechanicsburg, and Mrs. Ida Byers, of Waynesboro.
