About David Hughes

David Hughes was the son of James Hughes and Mary Junk. They came from Tyrone County, Ireland in about 1841. We find an entry for immigration for Mary Junk and her brother. David was born on a farm near Alexandria. It is on the 1880 plat map of Pipe Creek Township. As an adult he gets a share of his father's farm and there raises his own family of very lively children. They were a very social, out going group of young people that managed to be invited to socials in the same area. They cleaned out David's barn and had dances and socials there. David remained close to his father James until his death. He married Mary Elizabeth Perry, daughter of Aaron Adam Perry, blacksmith and stone mason in Alexandria and Elwood and Sarah Frances Howard, daughter of David Howard. Aaron was a participating member of the IOOF fraternity of men and worked to maintain headstones and the IOOF cemetery. Aaron lived with David and his daughter Mary Elizabeth after his wife passed away until he passed away in 1905. A life long farmer, David raised a wonderful, fun loving group of kids that faced the challenge of finding other types of work than farming as they turned the century in 1900.
