David Rawiri Kuka

2018 (February 11): Kuka, David Rawiri, 1966-2018 Aged 52, he was found at a Wilrose Place address where he lived in Gate Pā after emergency services were called about 10.40pm. He was last seen playing his guitar at the commercial building, which he used as a workshop for his wood carving. David had suffered a serious head injury and was pronounced dead at 11.15pm on 11 February 2018. The father-of-four was killed in an execution-style shooting in which police believe he was targeted by mistake. Police confirm it is the same address where a Mongrel Mob member, Lance Waite was injured on January 3, before dying in Tauranga Hospital, and the attack was likely linked to the gang shooting in the same location five weeks earlier. His murder remains unsolved. RIP David, I remember chatting with you in the Gate Pā New World carpark the day before you were murdered and I really miss our conversations and seeing you around the town.
