About David H. McLaughlin
GEDCOM Note
The McLaughlin book states 4-15-1822 - 12-3-1923. However, my mother was born May 1922 and is very definite that he died BEFORE she was born and this is confirmed by the obituary in the newspaper December 7, 1922
Here is the rest of the info on David from the McLaughlin book - compiled by Steven K. McLaughlin in Dallas, Texas, 1990
David was born in Mercer Co., PA, and resided in Henry Co., Il. He took his first airplane ride on his 99th birthday. He was distinguished by his long, white beard which floated on the wind in that open-air plane. To his younger descendents, he looked like Santa Claus. Margaret's marriage to David was her second.

David H. McLaughlin Dies
David H. McLaughlin passed away in death at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H.S. Sexton Sunday morning after a short illness. Mr. McLaughlin celebrated his 100th birthday last April. At that time and up to a few days before his death, he enjoyed good health and a few weeks ago he enjoyed a ride in an aeorplane.
David H. McLaughlin was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry McLaughlin and was born near Greenville, Mercer County, Pennsylvania on April 16, 1823. He was one of a family of 10 children. In 1852 with his parents and some of his brothers and a sister he immigrated to Illinois, making the journey by team and wagon. They first settled in Mercer County and later moved to Henry County in the same state.
In 1861 he offered himself to his country for service in the Civil War, but on account of physical disability was rejected.
After moving to Henry County he united with the Methodist Episcopal church at Alpha where he maintained his membership to the time of his death.
Since the death of his wife and a daughter Myrtle, he has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. H.S.Sexton with whom he moved to Iowa in 1911 and settled on a farm near Mediapolis, where they lived until last spring when they purchased the J.A.Duncan farm, 2 miles southwest of Oakville, where after a brief illness he passed peacefully away early on Sunday morning, December 3, 1922.
He leaves to mourn his death the following children: J.C.McLaughlin of Greenville, Pennsylvania; Frank B. McLaughlin of Peoria, Ill, and Mrs. Jennie M. Sexton, of Oakville, Iowa; besides 5 grand children and 10 great grand children.
Mr. McLaughlin was almost a life long christian having united with the church in early manhood. At all times and under all circumstances, he walked the well beaten path of righteousness. His conscience guided his every act. He was strictly honest in his life. He had the respect of all who knew him. He was of a kind and loving disposition and to all he extended a cordial greeting. It was his aim in life to brighten the path of his fellowman.
Funeral services were held at the home Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock conducted by Rev. J.S. Decker of Mediapolis. The body was then taken to Alpha, Ill accompanied by the family, where funeral services were held tuesday morning at 11 o'clock and internment was made at that place.
